Front cover analysis
Front cover The theme colours that i have used are red, white, black, grey and blue. I have used three imagesoon the front cover. The lastest is the band that my feature artical is about. The other two images are on the left hand column to show the other stories that are always published in the rest of the magazine. The images have been changed via Photoshop to make the necessary effects to complement the type of magazine that I was aiming at. I have used the same font throughout the magazine to show consistancy and provoke a sense of professionalism. The bar code has been put on with the prices( like a proper magazine would do). I have added a quote of what the band told the reporter underneath their name. Using red was very important so that the viewer's eyes easily gazed over to look at the exclusives and the plus section at the bottom. Adding important alternative contact information on the front cover is a good way of getting the audience to visit their website and possibly subscribing to the magazine every month. For the titlehead I used a big letter 'E' as this is the recognisable sign that this is the 'Emmense' magazine. I have used a border to make everything look tidy and well executed.

Question 6
Whilst doing this project I started to use Photoshop for the first time. It's a lot more simple to use than what I had previously though, we had a qquick lesson on the basics of how to use the tools and how to change and add images together to make a really professional looking image. I changed the brightness and the contrast on most of my photographs and photoshop was helpul because it allowed me to do that. I could also crop the parts of the images that I want.
However, when I wanted to change something/correct something,I did not realise that after merging or flattening the layers I could not undo this so that I could make changes or move things around that I needed to so there are somethings wrong with my double page spread.
I enjoyed using blogger.com because I could unload all my work onto it so that my teacher could see and I wouldn't have to print off every single piece of work I did. To start with I had a bit of a problem with my password and logining in but I fixed it and it's been easy to use ever since. I liked the way I could personalise my blog by changing the background and the set up of the pages.
I didn't use flickr as I found it hard to use so alternatively I annotated the images I needed on word and then pasted them to a blank photshop page and saved them as a jpeg. I was then able to upload then to my blog and save them in the correct folder(appendix).
It was easy working on my blog from home and on the college network. I had not problems logining in and getting on with the work I needed to do. Sometimes saving the images into jpegs was a long process but it was worth it.

Question 1
The name of my magazine is 'Emmense'. It's the word 'immense' but changed to sound more like slang-how people in this type of group would have pronounced it. I also called the magazine 'Emmense' because this would be a typical word that rock/emo/goth people may say.
All the letters of the masterhead are in different font, this emphasises rebellion, they are either filled with black/blue or gray. The background behind the letters of the masterhead is a cobweb but I have changed the opacity to less so that the letters are clear enough to be read. The letters are quite prominent and the first 'e' of 'Emmense' is the most notcieable because it's a capital letter,it's also in 3D and that is the image that the viewers will be able to instantly be able to recognise the magazine. The colours also fit into the colour scheme which is necessary so that the perception is thta the magazine isn't messy, thrown together and shows lack of synchronisation.
The images are extremely imporant to make the magazine look professional. My cover image is very relevant to the style of the magazine. The image has been taken slightly off horizontal to portray a rough and threatening stance. The image shows rebellion. The photograph is a mid-shot because half our bodies are shown, shows the clothes that we are wearing and therefore influencing the readers to wear similar clothes to ours to fit into that social group that the 'Broken Roses' belong to. The image has been heavily photoshopped;making sure that the brightness had been increased to make the people in it appear paler, this emphasising the similarities to vampires and unhappy, rebellious teenagers(which the magazine tries to aim to entice.) The contrast has also been increased to make the colours much more vibrant and draws much more attention to the band member's faces and the caption underneath. People may want to find out more about the band if they are seen to be interesting
The clothes that they are wearing in the pictur are very specific and also fits into the latest fashions atthe time when the photographs were taken. The clothes they are wearing are all dark (black/blue/purple) but to stick witht the emo style, there are some splashed of colour too.
The clothing that I am wearing is a bright orange top and then on top of it is a military style jumper. My hair is swept across my forehead which is also known as an 'emo fringe',my hair is purple which expresses further rebellious behaviour and wanting to stand out against others.
Abi is wearing a black and white stripped top, she's also wearing a large, colourful beaded necklace which adds a splash of colour to the picture instead of all being dark and uninviting. Her hair is also across her forehead like mine. Our lipstick colour is very bright and vibrant to draw attention to the customers that may see it.
One of the props we used was the framework of a cage which worked really well. The way that Alice was holding onto it and showing her breaking free from the stereotypical normal teenager(cgae being typcial views by many people who's thoughts about stereotypical, rebellious teenagers is negative.)
The background is also dark to make the images look slightly more sinister and to give the feeling of the unknown. The people in the photographs are 16-17 because this is the sort of age group that the magazine is aimed at. The group I was appealing to was 15-22 year olds because they are more likely to be the ones reading magazines and going to concerts etc.

Question 3
The publisher that I would like to distribute 'Emmense' would be IPC as it is well known and established and it's owned by Time Warner, one of the biggest multinational media companies in the world. IPC already published NME which is a similar music magazine to mine so therefore people would feel confident about buying magazine by tthe same company because NME is very popular and customers know that it's worth buying. I would like IPC to publish it also because it's a large company and it's also international so I would get to sell my magazine to several countries like many of IPC's magazines already do. More advertising for my magazine would mean that there would be a negative cash flow for a time but once the magazine started to be recognised and bought more often then the magazine and IPC would soon be making a profit.
IPC states that it continues to bring you the very best in new music by publishing every week. NME has become a unique brand because it has become so popular that there is a television change, radio station and IPC manage to reach this magazine and the brand itself to over one million music fans every single week. With this massive way of advertising and ways to get the update information on brands and gigs,my magazine could potentially become as popular.
Bauer on the other hand are very successful but they aren't as big as IPC. Bauer does sell some of the most largest selling magazines although they don't specialise greatly in music magazines wherees IPC has done for 58 years of NME's heritage. Bauer do publish Kerrang which is much to similar to my magazine so therefore it would be the best decision to allow IPC to publish the magazine as there won't be a high competition between the two magazines at the same advertiser.
The synergy is also very important as there would have to be an online version of my magazine as customers may want to subscribe to it on their computers. Whilst they are on the go they may want to listen to the specialise music that we many talk about, therefore they may wish to be a radio station, they could listen to it on their phones whilst on breaks at school and work,if they are driving in their car they may wish to listen to the Emmense Radio-there are several possibilities.
We may also be able to get some more promotion because IPC get involved in sponsoring awards ceremonies, people may then want to research into company and find the different magazines that they publish and that would get the magazine more better known. Music providers such as iTunes may advertise our magazine because of the bands that are included in it are very popular and well-known.It would help both the magazine and iTunes because they would both get more interest, such as downloads and we would get more sales.
